There are race cars then there are RACECARs. Some racecars are placed in the upper echelon of sporting history. Your 917s, 956s, GT40s, Lotus 49, Jag D-Type etc. In my opinion the F1 GTR is one of those cars. Not since the early 70’s has a car so closely based on a production based car won the 24 hours of Le Mans. The actual modifications list is much shorter than you’d think. Upgraded braking, cooling, and aero are basically the only mods. Even the stock gearbox was used. Amazing the power was even reduced via GT1 spec air restrictor. They’re so close to the road car, they can even be converted back to road use.
This exact car placed 8th at the 1996 Le Mans race in the hands of three legends. 3 time F1 champ Nelson Piquet, Indy500 and CART champ Danny Sullivan and Motorcycle racing champion and multi series hot shoe Johnny Cecotto.
Many strings were pulled for Pfaff to bring this car to the Canadian International Autoshow in Toronto. It was 100% worth it. Can they out do this next year? We’ll have to see.
