With the festivities of Eurokracy taking over the entire Canada Day weekend, we were unfortunately unable to make it to Boonies Bash 2014 at Shonnonville. Luckily our friend Lucas from FTN Auto was able to capture the sights and sounds. We’re posting pics of 3 of our good friends. Steve Van Sluewen’s E30, Mike Catell’s FC and Kristoff Hemet’s E36.
More pics can be found here: FTN Auto Boonies Bash.
Formula1 is looking to switch to 18 inch rubber, up from the current 13s. Ironically for aesthetic reason. Yes, because all the penis nosed cars, as per the rules, are held back in their beauty by the small wheels. Realistically, the 18′s allow Michelin to enter the sport again. They have indicated they would only be interested in returning if they were allowed to design 18s, along the lines of their sportscar tires.
The Kruise was much less hands on this year. Last year we tried to handle it with an iron clad schedule and wound up taking a detour anyways. This year was much more relaxed. The Kruise was more enjoyable. The gorgeous weather contributed greatly. While I was able to borrow Sam’s MK5 I quickly realized, I missed my Subaru or at least having my own car. The trip took around 5 hours with only one hiccup (below).
Mauricio’s top 100 show and shine entrant MK2.
Hiccup: @thatbaggedtdi ran into a slight rear tire wear issue. Crazy camber and toe will do that to you. Luckily we all made it to Montreal with no blowouts.
Jay’s 2.7TT swapped B6 A4. Sounded exactly like a low flying plane. Which is to say annoying as hell when you’re driving beside it.
TOPP Drift is really the only one holding it down in southern Ontario for drift events. People young and old travel hundreds of kilometers to come to these reckless (but safe), fun events.
The way the events are run are like none in the world (except maybe gatebil). The 13 cars on track limit leads to plenty of awesome tandems. It trains and pushes you as a driver to get comfortable in a track environment around other drivers.
This last weekend TOPP hosted its first two day event, Boonies Bash 2014. It was an awesome time out and we all had a ton of fun. Thanks Blake for throwing these awesome events.
This is Canada’s Premier car show. Let alone European car show. We’ve been attending Eurokracy since it’s inception and have been shown open arms by the organizers Rick, Sergio and Jesse. We definitely feel part of the Eurokracy family. So much so, they allowed us to present our award for our favourite ride on stage. While my time with the mic was botched by stage fright, perhaps I should have prepared some words before hand. We ended up awarding this 1.8T swapped MK1 below. It was super clean with an amazing swap. It just felt right picking a Mk1 too. The severe heat limited the number of photos we have. The shade of our tent was very very compelling.
Sharing the stage with Sam Dobbins and his epic food saver.
993, with Ruf front and rear bumpers. The Porsche fanboy within tells me this was the coolest car at the show.
When BagRiders bring up their own E92, you know you’re in for a great show. You hear about the LibertyWalk Auto kit as now bring played out. When is the last time you’ve seen one in person? They are an impressive piece of kit. Just because you see them online does not mean the work going into one should be downplayed.
Bronson’s 540i ripping up the track. Definitely one of the better sounding cars of the day. The best time I believe was a 15.4, not bad for a 3800~ lbs luxary yacht with an open diff and blown suspension.
Chris’ Mk5, newly christened with OZ Futuras.
Redbull gives you wings. Seems like a little too much though. #redbullhigh
